These classes are designed to prepare expectant parents for the childbirth experience. This is a four evening class series that covers signs of labor, preparation for labor and birth, breathing
techniques, stages of labor and birth, medications, comfort measures and more. A one day class is also offered on Saturdays. Classes are held at various locations throughout the county. Participants are encouraged to bring (2) pillows, a blanket or yoga mat and a snack/drink. Classes are free of charge for Healthy Start and Mom Care clients (Registration must be completed by your assigned care coordinator). A $35.00 fee for Mon-Fri classes and a $40.00 fee for Saturday classes is assessed to all non-clients and advanced online registration is required at Healthy Start Coalition of Orange's Web Site. Payment includes the attendance of all four sessions by both you and your partner
Boot Camp for New Dads Workshops
Babies don't come with instructions, so the Florida Department of Health in Orange County in partnership with the Healthy Start Coalition of Orange and All Star Dads (allstardads.org) now has the training available for every dad needs. Boot Camp for New Dads is an educational program taught by fathers for new fathers. It is a three hour workshop covering not only baby care and fatherhood, but also the needs of new mothers.
The first hour is dedicated to discussing topics such as: Forming a New Family, The Changing Role of Fathers, Ensuring Your Baby's Safety and Helping Mom with Breast feeding. The second hour is a hands-on opportunity for prospective dads to practice their baby care skills, such as changing a diaper, feeding, and burping, all under the guidance of veteran dads who bring their new babies to class. The third hour is an interactive session featuring the best advice that veteran dads can offer new rookies. Nutrition Classes & Cooking Demonstrations
“SNAP-Ed is an evidence-based program that helps people lead healthier lives. SNAP-Ed teaches people using or eligible for SNAP about good nutrition and how to make their food dollars stretch further. SNAP-Ed participants also learn to be physically active.
SNAP-Ed works by building partnerships with all types of community organizations and providing nutrition education classes through the Healthy Start Coalition. Class topics include: how to build a healthy plate, meal planning and budgeting, reading nutrition labels, cooking demonstrations and a nutrition guide for pregnancy. Participants are able to enjoy the food prepared in select classes.

Happiest Baby on the Block Classes(This Class is Temporarily Unavailable)
The Happiest Baby program is a national program developed by Harvey Karp, MD, a renowned Pediatrician. New parents learn how to help babies sleep longer and how to soothe a fussy baby. Classes are offered throughout the county. Advancedregistration required and closes one week prior to the class start date. A $10.00 fee is assessed to all non-clients and advance online registration is required. Payment includes a Happiest Baby on the Block DVD.
Safe Rides for Babies
The Safe Ride 4 Babies Car Seat class requires Pre-Registration - call 407-858-1472. The class will include car seat safety, recall updates, and proper car seat installation. Women & Infant Support Education (WISE)
The purpose of the Women & Infant Support Education (W.I.S.E.) class is to raise awareness and educate the community on the importance of Maternal Health for all parents with children. W.I.S.E. is a 6-week (one-day) informational class focused on specific topics. Class topics include: Maternal/Reproductive Health, Child Development, Breastfeeding, Safe Sleep/Shaken Baby Syndrome, Car Seat Safety and Infant CPR. Upon completion of the 6 -week class, participants will have a better understanding of how to have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. Participants will also be able to identify and assess their child’s growth and developmental milestone achievements. Demonstrations on proper breastfeeding techniques for infants and proper car seat installations, with the opportunity to purchase a BRAND-NEW car seat after completion of the class, are all included in this session.
