DOH-Orange Recognizes National Radon Action Month

Orlando, Fla. – January is National Radon Action Month, and the Florida Department of Health in Orange County (DOH-Orange) encourages residents to take action to protect their homes and families from the dangers of radon exposure. The best way for residents to protect themselves is to test their homes for radon, a silent killer.
In Florida, one in five homes tested has elevated radon levels. Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas and the largest source of everyday radiation exposure. It’s colorless and odorless so you don’t know you’re breathing it in.
There are ways to reduce high levels of radon in your home – your first step is to test your indoor air. The test is simple and you can request a free radon test kit from Radon.FloridaHealth.gov.
Starting January 23, 2024, while supplies last, Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) clients of DOH-Orange can receive a free Radon Test kit at our Southside, Eastside, and Lake Underhill locations. WIC clients interested in the Radon Test Kits can call 407-858-1497 for more information.
