Our Story

Orlando, FL – The community is invited to attend the restaging of Our Story: HIV in the Black Community, a theatrical production, on the 20th anniversary of its first performance. This unique theatrical experience is in honor of National HIV Testing Day and weaves a story of love, faith, and triumph over division as HIV impacts the Black community. The original production received rave reviews in 2002.

Told through six vignettes staged by a cast of characters, the audience will get a glimpse of the daily grind of a person living with HIV. Our Story is the work of local playwright Larry Williams of the Simeon Resource and Development Center for Men. His play will dive into the subject of HIV with drama, humor, song, and faith which creates a pathway to love, understanding, and acceptance that gives us hope for humanity.

The opening night performance is scheduled for June 9, 2023, followed by matinee and evening performances on June 10, and June 11, 2023. Each of the performances are scheduled at the John & Rita Lowndes Shakespeare Center, 812 E Rollins Street, Orlando. On Saturday, free HIV testing will be provided.
