ORLANDO, FL – The Office of Community Health at the Florida Department of Health in Orange County will host a FREE Nutrition and Cooking Class for pregnant moms and moms with children under age one.

Held on November 11, 2021, at the Holden Heights Community Center, 1201 20th Street in Orlando, the class is in partnership with Hebni Nutrition Consultants and Orange County’s Community Action division. The class starts at 6:00 p.m. and will run until 7:30 p.m.

The cost is free and social distancing and safety measures will be in place to protect all attendees.  Participants will receive hands-on coaching on healthier ways to prepare meals while make it appealing for the young and old alike. Participants will receive door prizes and give-a-ways. A grand prize will be awarded to the mom who prepares the tastiest dish.

The intent of the class is to educate parents on the importance of introducing their infant and toddler to healthy foods which will affect how they eat as they grow older. Childhood obesity is a serious problem in the United States, putting children at risk for poor health. Data shows that children who grow up eating healthy are less likely to become overweight and develop chronic diseases such as hypertension, heart disease, and diabetes. A healthy diet can help infants and children get the nutrients they need for healthy growth and development thereby reducing their risk of contracting these diseases.

Hebni Nutrition Consultants, a local nutrition resource center, will conduct the class providing education, resources and strategies to moms on how to prevent diet-related diseases through the art of healthy cooking.

For more information and to register for the class call 407-858-1461. Future classes throughout the county will be announced.
