2015 Health Equity Symposium 

The Florida Public Health Association, in collaboration with the Florida Department of Health, Florida Hospital and the University of South Florida, is hosting the 2015 Regional Health Equity Symposium on Friday, January 30 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Florida Hospital’s Creation Life Conference Center located at 601 East Rollins Street, Orlando, Florida.

This Regional Health Equity Symposium will offer engaging learning environments to share practical definitions of health equity and the National Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Service (CLAS) standards. Participants will dialogue and exchange information about local challenges to achieving health equity and strategies for implementing CLAS. Public health practitioners, clinicians, researchers, community health workers, nonprofit partners, social workers, community and urban planners, and students are encouraged to attend.

“This symposium continues to strengthen our relationships with community partners to help advance Health Equity in Orange County. We can all work together and contribute to improve areas such as access to care, health outcomes and chronic diseases in race and ethnic minority groups,” said Lesli Ahonkhai, assistant director of the Department of Health in Orange County and immediate past-president of the Florida Public Health Association."

The keynote speaker of the day is Health Equity pioneer, Adewale Troutman, MD, MPH, Associate Dean for Health Equity & Community Engagement at the University of South Florida’s School of Public Health and Immediate Past President of the American Public Health Association. Attendees can participate in breakout sessions and roundtable discussions and listen to speakers from county health departments and academia working to achieve health equity in the state of Florida. Attendees will also receive a toolkit to support their local efforts in advancing health equity.
