13th Annual Caribbean Health Summit

The Center for Multicultural Wellness and Prevention Inc. (CMWP) in collaboration with the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce of Florida Inc., the Greater Haitian American Chamber of Commerce of Orlando, Florida Department of Health in Orange County and Florida Hospital will host the 13th Annual Caribbean Health Summit. This free community event will take place on Saturday, September  12, 2015 from 8:00am to 2:00pm at the Central Florida Fair & Exposition Park (Fairgrounds), located at 4603 West Colonial Drive, Orlando.

"The Center for Multicultural Wellness and Prevention is committed to saving lives through prevention, education, awareness, linkage and referral. The summit is the perfect vehicle to highlight the importance of early detection, which is screening.  The community will have the opportunity to take advantage of free different screening tests for that day,” said Dr. Marie Jose Francois, President and CEO for the Center for Multicultural Wellness and Prevention.

The theme of this year’s event “Embrace Your Health” emphasizes taking care of not only your body but your mind, and spirit as well.  At this year’s summit, health experts will share important strategies to embrace your health through prevention of diseases; improving wellness and quality of life. The summit is also an opportunity to engage in health equity with the community.  The summit will offer mammogram screening on Friday, September 11th and on Saturday, September 12th by appointment only.   • Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA)
  • Eye exams
  • Dental Exams
  • Body Mass Index
  • Cholesterol
  • Glucose (blood sugar)
  • Blood pressure
  • HIV/Syphilis
  • Mental Health assessment
  • And more…

This family fun event will also include a Kid’s Corner and activities for adults of any age including Zumba. 

The event will also be supported by local sponsors, such as Florida Hospital (Premier Sponsor), Department of Health/ AIDS Program Office, VITAS, Orlando Health, City of Orlando (Bronze Sponsor),  Florida Blue (Bronze Sponsor). There will also be many other community organizations and agencies that will be supporting this important community event.

CMWP is a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit organization with the mission to enhance the health, wellness and quality of life for diverse and ethnic populations in Central Florida.  Celebrating its 20th year in the community, this nonprofit has a well-defined history of providing health education and outreach to Central Florida’s minority population. CMWP is an established non-clinical setting, health education and outreach agency in Orlando, Florida. The organization has successfully partnered with community and social agencies to effectively address the health education needs of Central Florida’s minority communities.
