Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in Florida and many forms of heart disease are highly preventable.  Heart disease affects more than 6 million American women, and another 37 million women are at risk for developing heart disease. It is the number one killer of women and is responsible for 1 in three deaths in women annually.

“Living a healthy lifestyle can help prevent heart disease. Keeping pre-existing conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol at normal levels along with healthy eating and staying active can reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke,” said Dr. Kevin M. Sherin, director of the Florida Department of Health in Orange County.
