CELEBRATE NATIONAL NUTRITION MONTH

March 14, 2016

The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program at the Florida Department of Health in Orange County encourages everyone to "Savor the Flavor of Eating Right" during March which is National Nutrition Month®.

National Nutrition Month®, is a nutrition education and information campaign created annually in March by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. This year’s theme, “Savor the Flavor of Eating Right” has the purpose of encouraging individuals and families to take time to enjoy food traditions and appreciate the pleasures, great flavors and social experiences food can add to their life.

“Making a commitment to add more fruits and vegetables to your meals, as well as to take the time to prepare meals at home and savor them as a family is a step in the right direction towards improving your and your family’s overall health,” said Dr. Kevin Sherin, director of the Florida Department of Health in Orange County.

For over 40 years now, the WIC Program has been providing nutrition education and counseling. Registered/Licensed dietitians and nutrition staff members help families develop lifelong healthy eating habits through one-on-one counseling where they learn:

•           What to eat during pregnancy and breastfeeding

•           How to feed infants and growing kids healthy foods

•           How to successfully breastfeed

•           Shopping for healthy foods on a budget

•           How to cook healthy, delicious meals
