DOH-Orange hosts an Open House at the Westside WIC Center

July 07, 2017

On Friday, July 21, 2017, the community and the media are invited to an Open House hosted by the Florida Department of Health in Orange County at the new Westside WIC Center. The open house begins at 10 a.m. and the address is 6218 West Colonial Drive, Suite 232, Orlando, Florida.

Located in an underserved area of the community, the Westside Center administers the federally funded nutrition program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). WIC provides healthy foods, nutrition education and counseling, breastfeeding support, and referrals for health care and community services at no cost. In addition, on scheduled days, free breastfeeding classes are offered for expectant and new mothers.

“The new Westside location adds services that help improve maternal and infant health in Pine Hills, a high need area in Orange County,” said Dr. Kevin Sherin, Director of DOH-Orange. “WIC is an evidence-based supplemental nutrition program for pregnant moms and early childhood. It helps reduce low birthweight and promote healthy babies.”
