The Florida Department of Health in Orange County (DOH-Orange) would like to say thank you to our partners, Orange County Public Schools and Orange Blossom Pediatrics, for a very successful Back to School Immunization event held the last week of July. In addition, we would like to recognize our staff and volunteers who made it a success.

During the seven-day immunization event, a total of 2,530 school required vaccines were provided to 1,078 clients that ranged in age of 2 months to 18 years of age.

“The Florida Department of Health in Orange County is very thankful for its partnership with Orange Blossom Pediatrics and Orange County Public Schools,” said DOH-Orange Health Officer Dr. Kevin Sherin. “The event provided immunizations services and certification to over 1,000 children that enables them to be ready on day one of the new school year. We are grateful to all staff and volunteers who served the children and parents!”

For students that still need their school required vaccines and/or the 680 form, they can call DOH-Orange at 407-858-1444 to make an appointment.  The immunization services are free for eligible, school age children who are 18 years of age and younger. If the student only needs the 680 form, there is a small fee.

Vaccines help develop immunity to many serious infectious diseases by permitting the body to recognize and fight vaccine-preventable diseases. The following vaccines are required for children entering preschool and grades K-12: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), measles, mumps, rubella, polio, varicella (chickenpox) and hepatitis B. Students entering college should check with the health services at their college regarding immunization requirements.

If your child is due for a vaccine, please visit your family health care provider or our health department clinic. Visit ImmunizeFlorida.org to learn more about immunizations your child may need or call your local county health department to find out locations and times for immunization services available near you.
