Older Adult Fall Prevention

Unintentional falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries among Florida residents ages 65 years and older1. The State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP) Injury Safety and Violence (ISV)1.3, The Department of Elder Affairs contracts with ADRCS to promote increased use of evidence-based falls prevention programs serving elders. Activities include facilitating statewide education and awareness opportunities and supporting evidence-based and best practice interventions for older adult falls prevention.

ADRCs partner with local communities and coalitions to increase the number of counties that operate evidence-based falls prevention programs as well as the number of participants that complete programs. The goal is to have programs available in all 67 counties and program participant rates of 70 percent or above.
