In collaboration with Orange County Public Schools, Florida Department of Education, and Neighborhood Center for Families, DOH-Orange school health services are provided to students from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade. Services are provided in accordance with a local School Health Services Plan, developed by the Orange County Florida Department of Health and Orange County Public Schools.

These services include basic, comprehensive, and full health services for public school students.


Basic School Health Services

  • Preventative screenings and services (dental, vision, hearing, scoliosis, growth and development)
  • Health nursing assessments
  • Communicable disease prevention and intervention
  • Health counseling, referrals, and follow-ups of suspected or confirmed health problems
  • Individualized health care plan development
  • In-school care management for chronic and acute health conditions
  • Assistance with medication administration

Comprehensive School Health Services

In addition to basic services, comprehensive school health services focus on increased preventive activities:

  • Promote learning and improved self-health care management
  • Connect students with professionals who provide interventions and health classes
  • Reduce high-risk behaviors and their consequences through support services and referrals for:
    • Social and mental health
    • Substance abuse
    • Unintentional/intentional injuries
    • Sexually transmitted infections
  • Pregnancy prevention classes and interventions, and supporting student mothers so they can return to school after giving birth

Full School Health Services

In addition to the basic services, full health services provides social services, including:

  • Nutritional services
  • Economic and job placement services
  • Parenting classes
  • Counseling for abused children
  • Mental health and substance abuse counseling
  • Adult education for parents
